Wallace

High School

 veni, vidi, videotaped!

Since 1887, when Wallace provided a school house for pioneer children, education has been at the center of this Lincoln County town. With part of the high school built in World War One, much of the present high school was constructed in 1956, with later additions. In 1962, the Wallace Wildcats were ranked number one in eight-man football. The boy's basketball team was runner up at the state tournament in 1992 (Nebraska High School Historical Society 519).

The Town of Wallace

From 1980 to 1990, the population declined by 41 people to 308 (Nebraska Blue Book 820). The town is located in Lincoln County which, with 2,525 square miles, occupies 23 percent more land than the state of Delaware (with only 5 percent of Delaware's population). Lincoln County is twice the size of Rhode Island (with only three percent of its population). The third biggest county in Nebraska, Lincoln County is also half the size of Hawaii and a quarter of the size of either Vermont or New Hampshire.

The Students

Students at Wallace have the most complex mode of delivery for English 102. The 8:00 a.m. section is videotaped and then retransmitted via the fiber optics network at 9:00 to fit into their schedule. [Names of students withheld pending consent.]  Photograph not available, pending consent.
